I might try chicken wire for my fence, SCG. I found the bigger mesh wire, while slightly flimsy, is really cheap. They sell it at Agway in Skowhegan. We probably won't do metal posts unless we put in a large gate or something. DH wants to be able to pull up the fence easily to drive his tractor into the garden, so we'll probably use the fiberglass poles.
I should probably use the ugly orange fence because I already have it, but I'm not sure I want to stare at that all summer.
I might need orange fence here so it doesn't get run over by those that can't drive well.I might try chicken wire for my fence, SCG. Speaking of fences, (but this actuallly has nothing to do with putting one up), I just wanted to run this by you guys who have more experience with foxes. I've been hanging my dogs' smelly towels on the kennel fencing that my girls are in, thinking that maybe the smell of dogs may keep our "city fox" away. Does this make sense to anyone? It's almost been a week and I haven't seen him around or any tracks in our backyard, either. I hope I'm on to something. I've been just taking them out to the fence before they go in the washer, to keep that dog smell fresh.
you might ask the dog to pee around there as well (or any male friends you have)

Does that really work - the male friends part? If so I wonder if I can convince my poor husband........
My family think I am nuts but I pause the frames and look at the geese and the LARGE Orps seen grazing in the background.
We're all nuts together Ashandvine! My family thinks I'm nuts too when I point out hens on tv.
Yes they do. The EE roo attacked my 6 year old son today, so that roo is laying in my fridge now, and won't be further contributing to my flock. What kind of Wyandottes are you going to have this year????
What kind of fence do you plan to put around your garden, Mainechick? I'm thinking of free-ranging this summer, so I would need to fence also. Last year, I used snow fence to do some rotational semi-free ranging, and it is cheap, easy to move around with step-in posts, but really ugly.
I would love to have a living fence, like a privet hedge or something, but I'd need something else while waiting for it to grow. Plus I feel too old to start a living hedge! I'm not sure what I'm going to use.

Cool! I have 2 boys and they'll be all over that! Part of their "potty training" was on the tires of my brother's "sweet ride," several years ago. Wait until I tell them that I need their help keeping the fox away!
