We had our first predator kill today- poor Peaches the buff orp. I think it happened when I was in the shower before work- when I went out to leave, they were acting off- hiding, not scratching, but I was late leaving, so I didn't do a head count, when I get home, noticed Peaches was missing, and found her body way down back on the edge of our property- I think it had to be a hawk. She tended to wander away and do her own thing a bunch, so she would have been a prime target.

This almost looks like it could be fowl pox. Dry.
Might want to google it.
I could be wrong but the first roosters eye looks swollen. I've had rooster fights but nothing that looked like this.

I caught them fighting after I got home this afternoon, so they've been separated. If it's pox is there anything I can do, or just wait it out? And I agree about the eye - what can I do to treat it?

I'm so sorry.

and I don't really see the point in having to all come from the same seller as long as they are about the same age. because techically you could buy 4 chicks under 8 weeks and 2 over 8 weeks, all from the same seller, that would be 6, right?
Maybe you could buy 6 chicks at a "discount" and then "gift" a few back to the seller. Any rules on gifting chicks?

I would like to say that this being Easter weekend and with the sale on Sat. this is a good time to really enforce the 6 chick law because there are bound to be people looking for a chick for children for Easter. Then what happens to that chick after Easter. Kind of makes them think twice if they have to buy 6. They probably won't buy an older one because they want that fuzzy one for their kids.
