I like Barred Rocks and Cochins. They seem to do the best for me unless there is a fox around. Then nothing seems to be safe. And I can't forget Silkies. They are just fun to have around the yard. About the only breed I don't like is the Rhode Island Red. Granted I have only been around two, a rooster and a hen, but both were evil.
Whar fun today at the Augusta poultry swap! My first one ever, and well worth the drive. I met a couple of BYCers (hoppy and mountaintopsilkies) and discovered that I might actually like silkies! I was so so SO close to caving and getting a silkie baby! Then there were a couple of cochins that I also REALLY liked......
But our hatch is due tuesday, so I will have to see how that goes to see what I want to add.... But dont be surprised if you see me with more chickens soon!
I was at the Augusta swap today too, and got to meet Hoppy. I went home with two Royal Palm turkeys, mine one lonely one now has company. I bought (hopefully) a girlfreind for my Cochin Rooster and two nice big Barred Rock Hens. One of the Barred Rocks promptly disappeared. They were really frightened and skittish, I hope she is hiding and will reappear. I got a door made and hung on the end of the barn today so no more tarp, the two legged critters should be safe and sound. I also bought a HaveaHeart trap. I will rig that up tomorrow and start trying to get the Fisher. I have heard fried chicken (yep a friend actually got one in trap with fried chicken), fish, and a nice ol hunk of bloody liver for bait, I think I will try the liver first. The trap came with a smaller squirrel sized trap too so I think I will relocate some of the Grey Squirrels around here.

Man, that really sounds familiar! We've lived here 19 years now, - the house looks great overall, but I can see at least one area of unprimed sheetrock from where I sit, not to mention lack of trim.
