These past few days have been HOT HOT HOT. I went out to the coop to do a cleaning Sunday, it was 88F and figured the coop would smell a little with the heat. It didn't really smell. I went out and cleaned it today anyway, just have the thought that if it's clean the chickens are happy. What is everyone doing to help their coops stay cooler? I was thinking about making a screen door out of 2X2's and hardware cloth. I'm going to attempt it this week maybe. I'll probably make it to fit inside the existing door opening. Maybe put it in place and drill a few holes through the frame and door jam and use pins to hold it in place. Doing it this way I will still be able to close the regular door when needed. Hoping to get working on it tomorrow. Wish me luck. LOL

We have 5 lb 6 week old broilers that I'm concerned over, especially with this heat that we are in for Thurs & Fri. What I've started doing is placing water in (empty) kitty liter "jugs", one at a time, 1/2 full, let them freeze and then we'll place the jugs a couple at a time in their pen with fans removing the heat.

As for my layers, I turn them out, that way they can go out under the brush and stay cool near the dirt. I'm home days so I change their water several times a day, but I bet a ice block wouldn't hurt their water either.

a farm days is planned for the augusta tractor supply on july 30th, maybe you could bring your extra roos there. never know.
or maybe that's too far. also please spread the word if you know anyone with backyard farm animals they are looking for or to sell. they do need to provide their own pens and clean up after their animals as well. otherwise it's free to set up.

Welp I thought I heard it yesterday but wasn't sure. Today I'm sure. Mr Cogburn is out practicing his crowing. He sounds like a bad trumpet but it's getting better each time.
