Maine

when you have a high fever, that is your body fighting the virus and when you sweat from a fever, it is your body;s way of cooling itself. I don't understand the sub normal temp in people but in animals it usually means they have gone through the high fever and are crashing. we get out the heat lamps and warmers to get the temp up before the body shuts down.
Glad to hear your son is better, Hoppy! Wouldn't a subnormal temperature make you feel hot, since a high fever makes you feel cold? I don't really know, just speculation.

Were you talking about just the chickens??

Re: fuzzy legs. YEAH, I'm talking about just the chickens. Fuzzy human legs are desireable this time of the year. It holds the socks up, also boosts the R value.

Here's another funny for those who need it.... like me....

My ducks were so dirty and miserable without water to wash in so I brought them in for a bath :) They clearly dirtied the water fast enough! But they are up there blowing bubbles and swishing their tails. Its great. Now comes the tough part; getting them out to dry off and cleaning up the tub after them. Bleach and more bleach.

LOL told my DH that we'd have to share the bathroom with the ducks, if we got some!

Nice looking eggs, MaineChick, envious here!! No eggs for 5 weeks now!

Fuzzy human legs...Isn't that what winter is for?! Love the comment about that's what keeps the socks up...I was going to say the same thing.

Glad to hear your son is feeling better, hoppy! Sub-normal temps always a challenge to figure out. I know my kids would say I just feel yucky, Mum!

Ducks slept over night in the bathroom adjoining my daughter's room. They weren't completely dry and I didn't want to see them walking around with ice breast plates so now to get them out.
I just picked them up and carried them into the house. They didn't mind much. The kids wanted to help with THIS project. You don't HAVE to share a bathroom with your ducks but there was no sense in putting water outside. This way they got cleaner and I felt better as much as they did. Of course the mess... not so sure that part will be any fun. We did put down np on the floors to help out.

Out to get more corn to keep the chickens warm.

I enjoy hearing about the resident ducks. Ducks are too much work for me, but I love looking at everyone else's.

You know it's been cold when -7 has you rejoicing. Chicken chores were much easier yesterday. The day before (-18) I had to take a break to warm my hands part way through. This morning is -2, but on Saturday, I can wait until it warms up a little before I go out there. Only 2 more nights of these temperatures are forecast :) . The lack of snow is weird. This has been a strange winter.

Amen to that! 11deg. Here this morning and it feels great! The girls actually came out and pecked around for a bit. Have a great day everyone - enjoy the sunshine!

ok, due to neighbor complaints and starting a new business I need to downsize, I am selling some birds.

I have 2 very friendly choc orp bantam roos, I have a lf cross I am going to use so I don't need these boys, best offer, these are around 9 months old. I do have 2 bantam hens but one hurt her foot and has been in the house for a couple of months so if someone wanted to buy the lot, she may need to be acclimated outside, she is now walking fine.

I have a trio of blue isbars that I love the green eggs from and they are beautiful but I am going to only focus on a couple of breeds. $75 (greenfire still has these listed for $99/chick straight run) these are a year and a half old

I also have a trio of blue laced red naked necks. these guys look so cool and are a project so the rooster and a hen have the rose comb and one hen has a straight comb. $30 or best offer, these are 9 months old and laying

I also have a swedish flower hen rooster that is free or can sell 2 girls with him for $40 , 9 months old

I have a splash isbar cockeral, free

I might be interested in parting with a young(6+mo) pair of jubilee orpingtons if the price it right, my original pair got killed by a "predator" so I am not sure I want to keep trying to grow my numbers in vain with so much resistance from my neighbors.

I also have a young pair of hedemora, they are both gray/gold $30 for the pair
