Thanks for the laugh. I almost peed my pants. My hubby says he'll do it for $40/month, no visitation rights, 5 year limit. And he likes chicken soup.

why do you want to rent a show cage to try out? I don't use, never have. you could try one of the dog crates, they come in various sizes and I use one that folds up. great for taking to a swap and about the size of a show cage although it's not.

For those who show: is there a way to rent show cages so you don't have to spend gads of money and then store them? Esp if you are like me and want to try it out the investment is daunting.

I'm so excited! My husband has started talking seriously about us getting chickens! He randomly asked me today how many I wanted and told me that he had been looking at some coops. I don't know if its because he saw someones chickens on his way home this week, the melting snow/mild temps or if I've finally rubbed off on him but whatever the reason, I'm thrilled! It sounds like its finally going to really happen for me! I have so much planning to do!

That's GREAT! I'm happy for you-it is alot of fun!! I've had Barred Rocks, since last May and really like them! Funny personalities and they layed almost every day all winter. This spring, I'm going to try Silver Lace Wyandottes and Araucanas. Good luck!

The next meeting of the Central Maine Bird Fanciers will be held on March 17, 2013 at the Evening Star Grange Hall in Washington, Maine. The Grange is located on the south side of Old Union Rd in Washington off Rt 220. Building opens at 11 am. Pot Luck Lunch at Noon (please bring something). Meeting at 1 pm. Several club members will be discussing breeds of poultry and have some examples to see. Meeting will conclude with a 50/50 raffle and Auction.

(teaser, I will bring a paint silkie roo to be auctioned off and I can take sealed bids if you can't attend the meeting. this boy is a proven daddy for me.)

Congrats Dita!! Once my husband got on board everything went into warp speed! A friend gave us chickens but kept them until we got the coop straightened out. Have fun!!

Well, I thought you had to have a cage that was uniform with everyone elses. I have taller birds than the silkie so I wonder how it would work for me. I do have a rabbit cage but even that might be too short for a few. I will have to look around for a folding dog crate that might be big enough. I think the idea of renting cages might be a good idea for the club to make a little money by renting to youth and first timers like me.

Ditto. Raccoons are very dextrous and bears are coming out of hibernation so they are ravenous. What did you find of the birds-- anything?
