Anyone have any thoughts on what type of rooster this guy is? I have a few thoughts but was looking for a second or third or fourth opinion...thanks all!

I had some hatchery rhode island reds that looked just like that, Black tail and all.

I'm somewhat intrigued by BSF larvae. After getting over the gross out factor, it seems like it would be a good option for providing supplimental protein for birds that can't get free range time due to predation. So here's the question. I believe that the BSF may not even be in our area due to severe winters. But, I assume it may be possible to import them just for the summer months. Any one in Zones 4 and 5 have any experience with BSF? I have seen insects that resemble BSF adults.

and why do you want to import something that sounds like it could be a bug, try mealworms.

Is there a difference between a production red and a rir??

When you order from a hatchery there is not much of a difference. They will sell you production reds and call them "Rhode island Reds" There is a BIG difference in the old type RIR! Compare my avatar picture to your Production red rooster and you will see some of the differences
