I guess this means I should bring a few lol  I can't actually sell less than 6 at a time because of them not being 8wks+.  You know, I wondered about this:  if a person next to me at the swap has pullets and someone buys from both them and me couldn't they mix and match? As long as they have six to go together that are about the same age?  Maybe not, just wondering.  I was just saying to SO that I need a second incubator.  He didn't even flinch!  What I really need is a sign out front as well that says
"Eggs... PLEASE buy some."

and I don't really see the point in having to all come from the same seller as long as they are about the same age. because techically you could buy 4 chicks under 8 weeks and 2 over 8 weeks, all from the same seller,that would be 6, right?

That does seem like a nonsense rule. Maybe you can team up discreetly?

lazy gardener, we did a 2 foot skirt of 1/4" hardware cloth all around the hoop coop. I haven't decided about the new tractor. Maybe 1/2" hardware cloth, although I know of one person who does a double layer of chicken wire, which would save some expense. We usually buy the hardware cloth online, as it is usually cheaper, even with the shipping. I think last time it was from Wire Man.

Oh yes, but... when you get your cornish x rock from the meat case, haven't you noticed that there's always at least 6 of them lined up in the case????

Poor SO. When he learns that they are THAT young he is going to go nuts. He has been struggling with chicken consumption recently. He had a fit over the size of the legs and wings at most "wing nights" because he realized they were 'baby chickens.' Then the eggs... now this? I better get my poker face on.


My Jake turkey got his Hulk on, busted out of his pen and not only wrecked the hens nest but stomped all the eggs.

I was swearing like a sailor at him. I do hope that we are early enough in the season she will lay more eggs and set again. This time he is going to be barricaded in. Jerk.

Can any of you help me figure out what on EARTH is going on with my roosters?? They do live together, but are both pretty docile and seem to get along just fine. They had spots like this last week, which cleared up by itself. Then in the last couple days they look like this... What could it be? None of the hens have spots, just the boys. I have to head to TSC in a bit, so if they have something that can treat this, I'll pick it up. Just not sure what this is or how to fix it!

In other news, despite swearing up and down that I was NOT going to deal with a brooder with a newborn in the house, I just *had* to buy a bunch of chicks at TSC yesterday. They were on sale, I couldn't resist... Picked up four red pullets, and 8 straight run partridge rocks. The rocks were only $0.50 each! Everyone seemed to be in perfect health, but one of the red chicks died this morning. Not sure what the heck happened, but at least TSC will replace it.
