Im thinking this one is a cochin??? I don't know which one you are calling a millie fluer seabright but you probably will find it's neither.

Here are their combs :) I swear I am not holding them tight hahaha, after looking at the pics I was thinking geesh looks like I'm squeezing the poor things! You think #4 might be a mille sebright... do those exist? And any idea on the sex of my mille fleur? Thanks everyone!

Oh and they are about 2 1/2 weeks old if that helps at all :)

lost my last marans hen today, pretty sure I know who did her in- didn't find a body but the dog was covered in mud and he's been known to do these things.

I've got a probable rooster up for grabs, too. The chick is about 4.5 wks old. Two people on the EE Sexing Thread were about 90% sure that's what it is. Seems like he's going to be beautiful, but not here in Brewer.

I have one that is a mille fleur, I will get better pics. One is a sebright but has flecks of white for now so I was wondering if the come in calico like that with gold, black and white. I really stink at pics I will try to get better ones when I play with the babies tonight :)

Sorry about the Maran, geeze, what is it with our bad dogs these days? Know we're just coming off a big full moon, but...

Turkey vultures will not go after your birds while alive. However, if you see a lot of them circling, there is probably something dead out there, which means something killed whatever it is, which means there are predators about...

Have a question for you guys. My one year old Pekin drake Lucky, who has 4 wives, with which he has a very active sex life, has turned on me. Over the last few days he has been getting aggressive with my bare feet. He attacks when I shut them in at night. Night before he took a nice chunk out of my big toe. Last nite was smart enuff (??? questionable) to wear mucks and he had a fit because he couldn't get at my feet, he was obsessed and had to gently kick him away, he would not quit. Have heard to try to intimidate him back, hold him down or whatever, any one have any suggestions. Don't want him coming after my face. Always was my lover boy until this past week. Nothing has changed, they get out every day, plenty of exercise. He's fine when they're out, but I am still wary, can feel him eyeing me up...have to do something or hub says he's going to strangle him, he's my only boy right now...HELP!!

It must be the day for aggro animals... Came home from running errands all day and my husband had got a TON of stuff done - a run off the coop with a pop door so we dont have to let the hens out through the wood shop anymore and they can still go outside when we're not home, cleaned up the trash piles that we've been pulling out of the woods and piling on the lawn for the last week (note to my landlords/their former tenants: R-13 styrofoam insulation is NOT SHEET MULCH. Nor is it pond liner. It is, however an ****** pain to dig up and remove once its been sitting in the forest for ten or so years), cleaning up the downed trees, and doing the dishes (whee!). He also had had Quite Enough of the three little NH/Faverolle/game mix cockerels that we hatched by accident in February, so we're having poussin for dinner! Even at nine weeks, they are remarkably meaty for heritage birds - we'll definitely be keeping the other two from that batch that are NOT the barnyard bullies, a pullet that is the SWEETEST chicken we've ever had, and a cockerel with his dads general disinterest-in-but-not-fear-of people. They just might be the foundation of that awesome Ultimate Northern Farm Fowl my husband wants to breed eventually.

Hooray for barbecues!
