Random question for you all... Are there any large/standard sized breeds that have feathered legs, beards, and pea or similar small combs? I know there are Favs, but are there any other breeds that come in other colors? Particularly if they come in b/b/s.

On that note... If I were to grow out my blue pea-combed feather footed cockerel and bred him to my blue and black americaunas, would that produce b/b/s chicks with feathered feet *and* beards?

Ever see Brahbantars, Spitzhaubens? Cochins? Cochins come in BBS. No beards in them though, nor boots on Orloffs. Favs really are FAVulous, esp if you want easy, laid back with kids. Breda are gorgeous booted birds with no combs ... breed them with a bearded polish and you get something just beautiful. Annabanna might have some now.
Why not cross a Fav and Am. That is the doodle equivalent in chickens now.

Mustard- come back and get some.

Favs are certainly gorgeous! And a great size. I just really love blue and splash! I do have a cochin, but yeah, no beard. Good to get some feather footed babies though.

Hoppy, I thought blue on blue produced 25% splash, 50% blue, 25% black typically?

Mustard, that painting is beautiful! And adorable turkeys!

I picked up a new foster puppy today, so adorable! And calm as far as puppies go. The best part is, he has the same name as my oldest son! lol Oldest is Kaiden, foster pup is Caden. This is what I just found when I went over to check on them...

I stand corrected, you are right (long day running from one swap to the next) yes, 25% splash from blue to blue.

Thanks for the kind words about the painting.

Grace, I am so trying to convince my husband to have us foster dogs. So far it's a no go but I am working him down!

Gracejr, there are black and blue Faverolles in the US, but they are exceedingly rare. There is the common salmon color, which is actually black salmon - there are blue and splash salmon patterns as well, but again exceedingly rare. My husband and I are working on B/B/S Faverolles as a project, but still in the VERY early stages (three black half-orpington chicks and a pair of splash cochins with eggs in the incubator sort of early stages). So far as im aware, Favs are the only breed of any useful size with small combs, beards, and feathered feet. Henry in VT has a cock with a particularly tiny comb that im interested in getting some eggs from if I can, to breed down the comb size in my own flock. Id be happy to share some eggs or chicks once my b/b/s Faverolles project is further off the ground if you like.

This is cute! Is there a particular rescue you foster for? I just signed up to be a perspective puppy phone interviewer for the rescue where we got our super sweet lab/husky mix.

So far this day is going well. On the plus side the turkey poults are all doing well. Everyone seems to know how to eat and drink. The tetra tints that went outside yesterday are all still present and accounted for in the brooder coop. The negative side is I had to go out and catch two mischievous horses at 630 this morning. They had managed to get out through the back of their new run-in. They managed to undo the zipper on one side of the back door/flap. Fixed that with baling twine so they can't repeat the escape. At least I hope they can't :).Now I am at the laundromat and the washing machine I used decided to leak all over the floor.
