SCG, have you seen the ad on TV, I think it's for insurance... the ads are so good, that I never can remember what they are for. The lady is in her jammies, and obviously doesn't have her glasses on, and she opens the patio door to call the kitty in, and this honking big raccoon waddles through the door? There was also the lady last year in the Bangor area who hit a bob cat, she stopped, and doing the neighborly thing, put the little kitty in her car to go find it's owner or take it to the vet. Unfortunately, the bob cat was only stunned, and she soon realized that it wasn't a little pussy cat in her car!... She was able to stop and let it out without getting harmed!
I'm so glad that your story also had a semi happy ending without injury to yourself. Next time, wear your glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't a glasses issue. I had been on call the night before and I swear they woke me up every 15 minutes without fail. I was a walking zombie.

Sorry about the dead fox, Ash, but I wanted to show how big that sucker was. He probably took down turkeys. If I had a live picture, I would have shown that. I have not seen a fox that big in a long time.

BACK TO WORK!!!! YAY ME! Just got cleared today, back on the boo boo bus Monday...whew! In chicken land, the girls have been working OVERTIME! I am having a hard time with chicken math, and hoping you guys can help me a bit, here it goes...

I have 13 hens, and one rooster. That makes 14, of which 13 are capable of laying an egg. Yesterday, I found 14 eggs. I counted the chickens again, thinking that perhaps they dug a tunnel and invited a few friends...still only 13. I want to put a camera in the coop so I can see who this wonder chicken is! Maybe they are trying to bribe me..."Ok, so ladies, you go pump out as many eggs as possible and the big tall human may leave that gate open again...you know how much you like the neighbors flower garden...so get to it!".

My BSL's who have never attempted flight have been escaping over the fence for the first time since they moved out there...so, I am now a self proclaimed master of wing clipping. I think they know it, one of them flew out, got chased by the new puppy (some sight I assure you), and then proceeded to follow me around. I picked her up, and yep, she had not been clipped yet. I put her down, she sat right there until I returned with the scissors, clip, done, over the fence. It was as if she too was trying to bribe me with a feather sacrifice of sorts.

Maybe I have been cooped up myself for too long, or maybe...just maybe...my chickens are brainwashing me!

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer, as it closes I want to thank you all again and again for all of the help you have given us! We are truly thankful!

I took some of those clipped wing feathers, some dental floss, a pipe cleaner, and some cotton ribbon... (Now, if I had some bubble gum to add to that list, you could call me MacGuyver) ... and made a neat cat toy. My cat goes ape over it and carries it all over the house. He even carries it to his food bowl when he goes for a snack.

Congrats Pellepeterson on getting back to work. And it's not unheard of for a pullet to lay 2 eggs in one day. My BSL on 2 occasions laid 3 eggs in one day. Unfortunately, the second 2 were shell-less. And considering that she often laid a dbl yolker, in one day, she passed 4 yolks! She took a while to settle into an egg a day routine.

OK, so maybe my EE did lay 2 eggs, the first day-huh? I'd thought somehow I just missed one. But don't know how that could've happened either, since I'd been checking EVERY TIME I went out!

Don't tell me there aren't any cats in Somerville, ME. A buddies game camera...no wonder I haven't seen any deer out there in years.

From my friend's Facebook page.

Those are definitely not house cats.

. Yet the state demands proof before they will say there are cougars here. What more proof do they need?

Scary kitties :(

What a beautiful day!!!!! Being home all day the girls have been free ranging all day. They are singing and happy. DH is building their perm coop...he doubled the dimensions! !!! And its walking height for a giant. Lol!!!!!

Went to the oxford swap and fell in love with a 4 mo rooster. Soooo close to buying him. He was sweet anf beautiful but "chickened out".

Was in Sanford today and stopped at the TSC to pick up some dog food. They were having their Pet Appreciation Week sale so I was able to save $5 a bag on 4Health Dog Food. I get the Salmon variety when I can since I have one dog who appears to be allergic to chicken and lamb. Had two of the dogs with me and they loved all the attention and the treats.

I was surprised at how few vendors there were for the weekly Farm Day. I only saw three or four people set up. I did not get an up close look at what they had for sale. It looked like rabbits and a few birds. A 4H group was set up by the entrance and had some calves and a goat.

After that I took the 100 mile drive to Nashua to get the new family addition.

Meet Bojay the four month old yellow sided green cheeked conure. I had a normal green cheek for 20 years that I lost a few years ago and was finally ready to replace her. This guy is an absolute clown. Loves to lay on his back. And unlike other species of conures the green cheeks are not known to be screamers.

Here is an updated picture of the new Potcake. Jadzia is now four months old and like any puppy loves to get into mischief every chance she gets.

And finally I ended up adopting an Ibizan Hound last month. I was not planning on adding two dogs to the household so soon but I had been in touch with the breeder for a while and was thinking about getting a puppy next year. She contacted me out of the blue and said she had a two year old female that she was looking to place. So now the household is again full. This isnt the best picture since both ears are not standing up straight the way they normally are. The best thing is that the three young dogs (Frances, Jadzia and Serina the Pit) get along great and easily tire each other out playing.
