Not chicken related but is bird related. My male Spanish Timbrado canary is finally singing up a storm. When I got him he was just finishing up a molt so was quiet. Now that his molt is complete he has started singing his little heart out. He is a beautiful slate grey color so he almost matches my African grey.

For anyone who wants an indoor bird that is not high maintenance, has a very beautiful song and will not learn how to swear at the most inopportune times I highly recommend a canary. On the other hand if you want a bird that is high maintenance, can talk up a storm and can learn to swear with the best of sailors and pirates then an African Grey fits the bill. Although I will say Apollo, my Grey, does not swear and it is not for lack of hearing certain phrases.

I would think the swearing was part of the novelty.

Not chicken related, but I do have a lap goat. Pippy was well behaved until I told her she was staying. I don't know if she sensed a difference in me or what (I was loving to her before but I tried not to get too attached as I knew she was leaving), but she is up in my face more so than before. She was always loving, but the past few nights as I've sat at the edge of their house, she has gotten up behind me and thrown her front legs around my neck, put her head on my head and just sat there. Well, spit up and chewed some cud, but we all multitask a bit, right? Then tonight she gets down from my back comes around to the front and throws herself in my lap and just wanted to be held. It was cute, and I realize she's going to top out around 130 lbs so it won't be cute much longer, so I'll have to put an end to it.

Let me think. No sheep, cows, pigs, llamas, alpacas, guinea fowl, peafowl, lions, tigers, bears, alligators or elephants. Or monkeys. I really dislike monkeys. No rodents either other than what the cat leaves on the porch. But those he eats. No fish either.

As for feed I like to think that I strongly support the local feed stores. Actually I try not to think about it.

And yes to Beans. I know it is only seasonal but hopefully someday I might be offered a more permanent position. That along with the airport gig should get me through the winter.

Noooooooo. And absolutely no lagomorphs in any way shape or form. Gave up ten years of my life for them and have no desire to own one. That and lorikeets. Beautiful birds but spent almost two years dealing with them at a zoo. Too many bad memories. Not so much the birds but the zoo owners and the way they treated the birds and other animals not to mention the employees.

SCG, you must get photos of your affectionate goat before you train her to stop climbing on you!

The Johnny's site seems to think it is not too late to plant radishes. I don't like radishes, but the mild radish with peanut butter sounds good. Claytonia grew well here, but it was so difficult to harvest and you get so little to eat! It is an interesting plant, though.

I like the idea of rotating between two different chicken runs, MustardTiger. Right now, I have a huge fenced area for the chickens to roam outside the run, but next year, I want to do it differently. I'd like to divide this huge area it 4 smaller portions and give the chickens access to the first quadrant for two weeks, and them cut off access to that area and funnel them to the next quadrant for the next two weeks. By the time I rotate them back to the first quadrant six weeks later, it will hopefully have sprouted new greens.
