Does anyone know of a place other than Westons that processes turkeys? I know they are booked up until at least January. I can wait until then but Gardiner is a bit too far for me to travel with only a couple birds. I would like to thin out my Royal Palms since I have two more toms than I need. I have yet to process any birds on my own and would not want to screw it up. It would be so nice if someone would open up shop in southern Maine. With more and more people keeping birds it might be a nice supplemental business for someone who a). has the capital to start it and b) the talent to do it well. Unfortunately I have neither a or b.

Also does anyone know of a place that repairs saddles? I was all set to go for a ride today and lo and behold the leather straps that the girth attaches to are chewed. Seems the puppy discovered them and thought it was a great idea to chew one strap from each saddle.

She could have been nice and just picked one saddle. But nooooo. Needless to say she is in the doghouse today.

I'm certainly further than Westin's but I'd be happy to teach you to do it when we do our turkeys. I've never done a turkey but we've done a lot of ducks and chickens and I can't imagine the innards are that different, just bigger.

Of course it all depends on my work schedule. I am sure I will be getting plenty of hours once the Christmas shopping season gets going in earnest.

Greaney in Mercer also does turkeys but I'm afraid that's even further than Westin's.

As far as I know the two places closest to me on the list for poultry are not doing poultry anymore. I could be wrong though. And neither has an active website or Facebook page to easily check. I know I could call but in this day and age not having an internet presence is odd. On a related note I really hate it when businesses have an email as a way to contact them but then they do not bother to respond to an inquiry. I have taken my business elsewhere for that reason alone.

This is my little 7 year old gardener. Double cold frame with hay bale construction north, east, west walls, cattle panel top, gate across front to keep the girls away from the salad bar.




The squash vines that took over my entire garden. Under the mountain of green is a swing set trellis... for my pole beans. 185 pounds of butter cup and red kuri from one lasagna style hill 3' x 4'. The biggest butter cup was 22.5# Tomatoes still growing well in green house.








5 girls... 5 eggs. Lacy... my prettiest and wildest girl, lays the biggest egg. She's currently challenging RIR for top of pecking order. This has been an incredible bee year in my yard. Almost every dahlia blossom has at least one bee sleeping on it in the morning.



The coop... Took me way too long to build it, was supposed to be a tractor, but ended up being way too heavy to move after it was maneuvered into it's final resting place.

Great photos, lazy gardener! Look at all that squash! And I love the coop and the dahlias.

We still have lots of tomatoes in the hoop house, but they are starting to get late blight.
