Will tarps block as much wind as solid plywood would? I'm thinking of using plywood instead of tarps. I know the tarps would be cheaper, but, I would store the plywood for the following years.

Depends on how you use them. Solid plywood is easier to attach and keep it in place. Tarps tend to work free from where they're placed... at least the way I use them. Also depends on what you have available for storage.

If anyone is interested in tarps, Hamilton Marine has a sale on until tomorrow. Three different weaves: blue, white and silver, each one progressively stronger, and more expensive. You can also get tarp hooks that thread onto soda bottles that you fill with sand for weight.

It's fine. Despite spending 2 winters outside, and a couple of goat naps, it has significantly outlived my marriage.

So mad at myself! I've got 2 girls in sick bay, under heat, on Duramycin. I honestly thought the dose was 1/8 tsp. to 1 quart but it's 3/4 tsp. to 1 quart. So for 6 days that's the dose I've given them. Today I used the correct dose. My question--do I keep them on it a little longer or move to something different?

They are 9 months--no eggs laid for a while & 6 months--has never laid an egg. Both tails down, fluffed up, skinny, lethargic, shrunken comb w/small black spots--not mites on 9 month old. The 9 month old has had green watery poops. The 6 month brown runny poops today but I'm thinking that could be the antibiotic. 6 month old is limping. 10/5/13--Realized I had mites so treated & cleaned coop then treated & cleaned coop again 10 days later. They've also been wormed with Wazine & Ivermectin in the last month. They are eating & drinking but not much. I've fed them scrambled egg with garlic, plain yogurt mixed with Flock Raiser, Fermented Feed, rehydrated raisins--trying everything just so they'll eat. Tonight I decided to give them Pedialyte cut with water by medicine dropper to get more fluids into them. They both seemed to like it. 6 month old sneezed a few times this is the first I've noticed that. No runny nose or eye discharge but does sound gurgly. Think I will give both of them Oxine vaporizer treatment tomorrow night. Rubbed VetRx into combs, wattles, on nares, behind ears & under wings. Both LOVED that--snuggled into my arms and napped a little.

Don't beat yourself up, Coopchick. It sounds like you are doing everything you can. I get so frustrated and upset when I have sick birds. I hope yours get better soon.

My chickens have worms here, or at least one of them has them badly. I found a small pile of round worms on the dropping boards. I was intending to hold off on worming them until Christmas time, - partly because so many are molting right now, but also because I will have a stretch of time off and a break from egg customers. Not sure if I should wait that long. At least no one is acting sick at this point.
