Maine

Welcome! I had to look up Jackson on the map.

I had to ask about it, too, buckabucka. Welcome, Lori!

We were out of power from Monday evening until early this morning ( about 3am!) Thank goodness for the woodstove- and snow and ice to melt for toilet flushing! The chickens all weathered the storm fine, and they have started to pick up in egg production- I've gone from getting 1-2 eggs a day up to getting 4.

I am glad to hear everyone is getting their power back! I hope it didnt ruin anyone's Christmas! We were lucky not to loose power though many around us had.

I must say; this year has been a hard year for my chickens. We lost the little one with the bum leg yesterday. My husband went to check on them this am and found her dead with a little blood around her beak. I have no idea what could have happened since she was fine the last time I looked at her. She was always a runt and had the injury but she hung in there. I wonder what happened.

We are down to 5 hens and 2 roos. :( I feel like a bad chicken mom. Poor little thing.

Anyhow in happier news my roo who had some nasty frostbite is recovering very well.

I have not posted much lately not because I lost power, I did not with the last storm, but because I have had no chicken stories. Now if you want LL Bean call center stories I have plenty. Reasons not to fly in the winter if your plane has to be de-iced. Yup. Can post about that with no problem. Talk about my last foster dog who went to his forever family on Christmas Eve. I can do that. Mention that I am picking up my new foster, Bennett, Saturday. Can do. And for the record Bennett is an 18 month old Aussie/Heeler mix. Say that I am already tired of winter. Absolutely.

Sorry for your loss MT.

Between power outages and traveling for the holiday I haven't been on. Opened the coop up today and found a very small amount of blood on the feeder and door. No injuries that I could find at all...all running about, complaining about the snow, eating and drinking fine...weird huh???

I'm game for any of it except the plane story. I will be flying soon...

I've had unexplained blood from time to time. Usually a foot injury with blood on the roost, but sometimes it looks sprayed on the wall, like it was on their comb and they shook their head. I've never discovered who was bleeding, and luckily the hens didn't figure it out either!

Welcome back to the web SCG!

And Widget, I like winter, but it already seems long this year. It seems like we've had a lot of below zero nights for this early in the winter. We've been contemplating the size of our wood pile recently....
