Bucka, you could try to give away your older hens via Uncle Henrys or Craigs List. I would be sure to say they weren't laying.

I'm on pins and needles, waiting for eggs. I did find 3 goose eggs hidden under some hay! The hens though, are NOT laying. They have come out of the coop the past 2 days, so I am hoping this is a good sign! Hubby says the only reason they came out is because the snow is so hard packed. I don't know. We'll see. I think if they aren't laying well come spring, the older lot will go, and be replaced by leghorns....maybe. I really like my flock. Seems silly they won't lay.

Your cold frame looks awesome!! I'll definitely be borrowing some of your ideas... :) Is your hoop house thing thing just a second cover for he cold frame?

The hoop house is a separate entity - another type of warming design. I like them both, but they do different things for me. Sorry about your pug.

LOL Oh the visual!

x2. I think we need pictures... and my pop door is frozen shut... well the lock is. Must have gotten water in it when it rained on Monday because Tuesday I couldn't even get the key in it. I blew and blew in the hole to try and melt it and now I'm able to get the key in, but can't turn it. Hopefully it warms up this weekend and melts it.

Throwing in an order at Murray McMurray today with a coworker. Minimum is 25 birds, we're at about 18ish total, if anyone wants a couple of hatchery chicks (all vaccinated) I'll cover the shipping and even brood em a week or two if you need until you can arrange pick up.

Anyone want a few chicks? Let me know what breed/s and we can work something out!

Cheers

Hubby read me a quote today from an author who's name escapes me: "Winter is not so much a season as it is an occupation!" So true, at least this year!
I love it! It's so true. People from away probably wonder what we do all winter long! Their is always something to do in winter! Defrost this, shovel that, sand this, unstick that.
