Maine

I am so dense. I was just making dinner so I read this as a salt and pepperCORN was growing. Oh yes... winter brain.

So, what would you get if you planted a peppercorn?

Every one ready for yet an other snow storm. I'm hoping that they don't cancel school for 2 days over it. Sounds like, with the timing, it could be a possibility.

Okay... so despite my 'joke' I really am ready for Spring, or would be with about 72 hours notice. I took this next pic to appease my spring longing. Hope it pleases others as well. I don't have a brown layer or white. Will have to remedy that of course. The goose eggs will be white so I guess that counts... oh and the bantam Polish will be too I guess. So, I should say I don't have a white layer right now. That still leaves me lacking a regular brown layer. Hm. Is that chicken Math calling? Bucka, see the difference between bronze green and speckled olive? The other spotted eggs pictured aren't coming in anymore. That was an early pullet egg from the Marans I saved. I am getting the other two browns all the time instead. Wish they would lay one shade darker but overall its nice to see all those colors.
The eggs are lovely! So, wait, I'm confused, - are the bronze green and speckled olive laid by the same bird? I like both, but especially the speckled one! I do have one bird that lays a speckled olive egg, but I have no idea where she came from (as in, which hen I crossed with my rooster to get her). Who lays the pretty cream egg?

I think we will have school in Waterville tomorrow. At least a half-day, if nothing else, but Friday looks doomed to me. I really don't want a day off right before vacation, but I must say that the combination of full moon, Valentine's Day, impending storm, and upcoming vacation has quite an effect on children! Crazy.

If you're having at least 1/2 day in Waterville tomorrow, I'm guessing that we'll be having at least the same here, as you'll get the snow b/fore I do. Good day to go through seeds, and throw out the really old stuff, or perhaps sow it in a wide bed and let the girls have what ever sprouts. 7 y.o. wants to make cookies...

Tell me about it. My daughter has her first "boyfriend" and she's been talking with her friends non-stop about the Valentine's day dance and will he do something sweet for her. If that girl doesn't go to school and a dance on Friday I'll be hearing about it all vacation long.

Ooo come on now this little sneeze of a storm posh our highly skilled road crews that keep our roads safe and open should have us all ready to go bye 5 am with bare tar. :) there may be just a touch of sarcasm there but not sure lol

I live in southern Maine right off Rt 5 and this road has been horrendous this year! I have to be to work by 6 am and its barely plowed the whole length of it if at all . I'm sorry to start a rant but another white knuckle drive this Friday morning. Arghhhh.... Anyway the good thing I wanted to say. I ordered seeds from Johnny's yesterday morning. They came today. Wow that's amazing to me!

I love Johnny. I'm going to try some of their pelletized seeds this year. It's only a dollar more and hopefully I won't have to thin nearly as much or even at all.

PS: The road crews stopped plowing our road three years ago except after the storm is over. Drives me nuts when I all-terrain myself onto main street (the next street over) and the darn sidewalks are plowed over there.

MeMama: I'm also one of the last roads to get plowed. The worst part of it, is that I could make it in if there are less than 6", but the combing at the end of the road creates a very effective road block.

My 12 y.o. grandson had to go and buy a bag of Lindt chocolates for his "g.f." last night. At least the kid has good taste... with a bit of coaching from his grammy!

Every body stay safe and warm through this next storm!
