Maine

Is this winter EVER going to end? Just saw extended forecast, and while they are calling for the next few days to be in the 30s, next week and maybe even into the start of April they are calling for very cold temps. I am so tired of waking up to -15F below zero. I have lived in Maine my entire life, and this is the first winter I have really considered moving somewhere warmer.

Girls and I are all sick of this winter!! I even feel bad for the crows that migrated up, I don't think they expected it to be this cold, either! I have been saving bread for them, dogfood, etc. and feeding them as well. Hopefully they will repay me by chasing off the numerous hawks and bald eagles we have!!

I'm so jealous of all of you hatching eggs! I wish I could hatch some out. Hopefully next year when we have more room.

LG & Jazor~ I also am so sick of this bleeping cold weather! I keep thinking I should start planning my garden but am just not feeling inspired, these January temps are not helping!

I think I have finally figured it out... why it's been so beastly cold this winter... this revelation came to me as I was laying in bed, not sleeping at 0:dark-30 this morning, and looking out the window at the very bright moon. We've had a perpetual full moon all winter. Or, so it seems. For folks who keep track of the official full moon cycles, the one in May is on the 14th. So, me thinks it's a waste to plant much of anything that is not frost hardy before then, at least without some pretty hefty frost protection and hardening off.

The turkeys have been hanging around quite a bit. the cats are petrified of them!

I know!
I just finished tossing some bread ends to "our" crows. I want to be outside, playing, working, and running, but I'm starting to lose heart!
Too funny. I just tossed some bread ends out to the crows/ravens (i can't tell the difference) I think ravens. I then ran immediately back into the warmth of my house!

What to do on yet another cold day? Add more chicks to your order

I did end up getting a couple of Welsummers.
