Last year, i had a snapper in my drive way. He/she was quite a distance from water.
Last night, i finally caught Rocky. He likes canned cat food. So, we get up this morning, and i asked hubby to look out the bedroom window and check the trap. He says "It's down by the old garden." Well, that's not where i put it, but sure enough, it was about 40' away from where it was last night, laying on it's side, and empty. HUH??? What on earth happened here??? So, when i checked it, i found that the 1/2" hardware cloth had been completely shredded at the back end where hubby had added to the length of it. Rocky, got caught, spent a while trying to dig his way out where the trap door was: there's a 3" deep trench at that location where the trap was originally set. Then, he rolled it across the lawn where he chewed it to shreds. If i'd looked out the window last night, when the cat was so interested in what was going on, i would have seen him, and he could have been dispatched.
