And last night we had a skunk attack the chickens right before dusk. It is always something.

Hit it but didn't kill it with the .22 and unfortunately it sprayed. The coop smells awful.
Maybe not an instant kill--but hopefully enough damage dealt (hollowpoints?) to send it to a ditch someplace for it's final hours. Skunks are always the critter I don't want to shoot unless I know I have a clean headshot. Such a mess. Porcupine (aka quilpig) is my second-least favorite.

Knock on wood we've never had a porcupine here. Just legions of skunks.

Thought silkies were supposed to have a different type comb (walnut, maybe)?
