Maine

Hey everyone.... Our flock rooster died the other day and we're looking for a new boy for our girls. We're very much hoping for another boy with a good temperment....good with the girls and at least decent with people.

The boy we lost was pretty much an angel in bird skin, and we're missing him terribly. We're in Wilton, but are willing to drive a bit for the right boy. Hoping for LF, not bantam. We have a couple very large ladies.
What breed are you looking for? I have some Bev Davis line Wheaten Maran Roos that are almost 5 weeks old. One Barred Rock Roo(Duckworth Line) that is the same age... I will also have some Heritage RIR Roos but I am not sure yet as to which are the roos - harder to tell with those at this age. All hatched around March 24th.

I have 2 week old chicks, barn yard mix. About 50% of the pullets from this mix lay green/blue/olive/aqua eggs. There will surely be some nice cockrels in this group. They will be off heat in about 2 - 3 weeks. Their Daddy (my avatar roo) is a very nice boy. Quite the family man, loves his babies.

I will also have some pullets to sell. Barn yard mix (blacks and partridge colors.) I think all of them will have walnut or pea comb. There will also be some pullets from my shipped birds that I will not be able to keep: SLW, CW, BA, BE, Dom, PBR.

blood pressure alert...

80 broilers missing from the brooder. Found it empty this morning as I went to grab 30 I was selling... something managed to squeeze into the barn somewhere, get under a lid into the brooder... and devour 80, few days old, meat chicks (while leaving an adjacent batch of 3 week old layers intact).

Only a few drops of blood to show for the feast. My best guess is a family of raccoons... full night hunter mode tonight and call the hatchery for more in the morning. Grrrrrr.

Yep. I'm a certified card holding member of that club. I keep a shot gun handy. So sorry for your loss, Hiltonizer. That's a huge financial loss as well as the heartbreak of the death of all those little peeps.

theft had occurred to me, as we deal quite a bit and these were advertised on FB.... but it'd be very hard for someone to get down to the barn unnoticed between us being home, dogs etc... and the barn was closed... which thieves generally aren't courteous about. Would also would be pretty stupid of someone to risk getting shot over $50 in meaties.

The few drops of blood we did find seem to be indicative something sly got the better of us. I've patched a hole in the barn I found made by some rotting wood on the north side, and set out the have-a-heart-before-you-shoot-it trap, but no catch yet. Hatchery is supposed to call me back today and let me know if they can get me in this weeks delivery to Mainley Poultry.
