Maine

Well my chicks are really growing and thriving. I've survided the horrible Poison Oak outbreak. FIrst time having it and I caught it from my damn rooster Heinlein or my Pullet Leia since both like to be picked up and I picked both up shortly before getting the Poison Oak. Never had it before but I have to say that is the most horrible thing I have ever endured. I won't touch the chickens now without gloves on. :( I never had Poison oak and used to make fun of people. I am just glad my chicks can't catch it cause they live in the woods.

I thought we didn't have poison oak here. Could it have been poison ivy? I've never reacted to either, although I am careful around it. The chicks look good!

It seems like there are more ticks than usual this year!

Yikes - sorry to hear about the poison oak. That must have been awful!

The ticks are awful this year! I have lost count of how many I have gotten off of the dog and myself. (Thankfully only 2 were attached and not for long.) It is worse because I've been tackling japanese barberry removal in my yard and ticks love that stuff! I've been putting the chickens in with the goats, though, and I think they are doing a good job, because I haven't found any ticks on the goats this year. (Knock on wood!)

Hello!! It has been a while. Our chickens are a little over a year old. We were thinking of switching them to a different watering system. I have been looking at the nipple waterers. Will it be difficult to get the girls to use this type of waterer?

No, not really. It really only takes one to figure it out, then the others will follow.

I can, yes, but I'm not going to. I have mutt guineas, and am not charging for eggs. I offer it as a courtesy to anyone with tick problems as Bangor and below regions have a high incidence of ticks with Lyme. I am not going to lose time/money on a silly mutt venture, sorry. Hopefully you can find someone locally.
