Maine

Hey Mainers I have a chick that hatched all alone. He was an accident, lol. Anyway he will be 5 weeks old come Thursday. I'm looking for another 5 week old so he won''t be so lonely. It has to be a hen since I already have enough Roosters. He's part Cochin and part Bard Rock. I live about 70 miles North of Portland and will travel around 100 miles. email me or let me know here. Remember I'm looking for same age

Just ordered 4 more hens, 2 speckled sussex and 2 anacuana. They will be 2-3 weeks old when I get them. I hope that isn't too young for the 4-5 week old chicks I already have.

My flock keeps growing. I'm excited, but overwhelmed. I now have 12 adult birds and 16 chicks. I'm in desperate need of any building and fencing materials. My husband and I want to build a nice and permanent 8x10 coop with a large run this summer with minimum expense. (I think 8x10 for anticipated 20 hens would be about right. I do plan to cage off one corner for metal feed bins.) We looked into old ice shacks and decided we want to do this once and do it right. Suggestions are welcome! I will also be looking for homes for my male chicks once I can tell them apart. They are EE rooster crossed with the hens listed below. Hey... is spring coming or what?

Coldweatherbirds,

One thing to use for a coop would be an old camper trailer if you have one or can get one on the cheap. Like an old Shasta. Just gut it out and your good to go. Just a thought.

Thanks, but like I said we decided against temporary alternatives. Ice shacks, camper trailers and buses (though I'd kind-of like a bus my DH says no!) We want to build it once and for-all! We've got windows and doors. Everything else we need to scrounge and buy. Wish me luck!

Bumping the Maine thread! Thought I'd introduce myself to my fellow Mainers. I live in central Maine out in the country. My first broilers will be arriving May 6th! Can't wait, but it'll be some hard work!

FmrsDgtr08,

Welcome to BYC and the Maine thread. I know how waiting can be. I'm waiting for 10 silkies to arrive on May 6th also. I just hope everyone get along with each other.
