Does anyone have any chicks ready to go soon, or doing a hatching that they expect to be ready soon? I had a broody sitting on eggs for 3+ weeks that never hatched for her. At the 4 week mark I gave her another 5 and then *BAM* a second broody. We're going on 2.5 weeks for the second batch under #1 and the first batch of #2.
If the second set of eggs don't hatch for #1, I was gonna just give her some chicks to maybe trick her out of broodiness? Anyone think that will work? Or have an experience with it being a HORRIBLE idea?? Not sure what to do for #2 now either. I just don't want to donate all my eggs to these two if they won't hatch.
I don't think it's an issue of whether the eggs are fertile or not. I'm thinking that #1 maybe hasn't been turning them? #2 seems to be in a different position every time I go out, but #1 is always sitting in the same position...which makes me think no matter what, she won't be hatching any.
Anyway, if anyone thinks the plan of bringing in chicks will work, I'm gonna give the girls another week or so. I'm in MidCoast Maine, but can travel a little ways. What a horrible time of year to do this - I doubt many people are even hatching right now.
Yeah, i hatched out 11 total, 9 on June 30th, and 2 on the 23rd, I have 1 cockerals, and 3 pullets I think maybe 2 cockerals and then idk about the 2 from the 23rd!
they are from the 4 that I bought at the Augusta swap, I sold 2 of the hens with broken combs after I hatched out all of them!
