My parents live in Mineral, the epicenter right on Lake Anna. They had another aftershock last night, somewhere around 4 on the Richter Scale. Their water is brown thanks to all this. They had a hard time purchasing water yesterday, most stores were closed. They live about 5 miles from the nuclear power plant which luckily doesn't appear damaged. It appears the damage is fairly minimal down there, overall. Mostly brick buildings were damaged, everything else seemed ok.

Their leghorns seemed to forget their fear instantly once offered mealworms.

that's good to hear there is not much damage especially since there is a nuke plant there. just goes to show, you never know when you should have a store of water. I've never really thought to keep much on hand but brown water after a quake when you don't normally get them makes me think, yes, i should have a store of water.

Glad that all your family is ok and water is the only need they have. Such force from nature!
Off topic completely, but as you speak of Nuke plant, folks are up in arms over the wind farms. Fearing of endangering lives of birds, and the noise etc. What about those that survived Chernobyl, I can just imagine that they had wished they had a wind farm! But Nuclear has offered energy that wasn't coal or petro.... Have a wonderful day guys!

Off topic too, but I do agree. Lake Anna is actually a man-made lake that was made with the purpose of supplying the nuclear power plant with water to cool their reactors. It's supplied the region with better housing prices (due to the lake), tourism, and recreation.

... not to mention that very densely populated region with electricity.

Everything has its lifespan and needs to be taken care of whether it's wind turbines, a nuclear power plant or roads/bridges. We need to put America back to work and really start taking care of the maintenance of all these things before it's too late.

I'll get off my soapbox now and back to work.

Here's a couple pics of Momma and the 3 chicks. She is taking good care of them.

it's resting time for the chicks:

Feeding time, she grabs a mouthful and drops it on the floor and breaks it up with her beak.
