Maine

Hoppy, they're not bad. I've had them over 24 hours now and everyone's still alive. There's supplements that you add to their feed to prevent the stones. Besides hay and grain and the mineral supplements, they don't need much else except water, love and plenty of weeds.

Before goats:

After:

They are certainly proving their worthiness against weeds. Hopefully soon they'll feel like this is home and I can let them out to do their weeding without weeding then bringing it to the goats. That kinda defeats the purpose, although they're sooooo loveable.

Hi guys, I have sold a few chickens but still have some left! Just getting rid of all of them, I forgot to mention in the last post a few of them! Here is what I have at the moment!

• 3 Silver Spangled Hamburg Hens (about 1 1/2 years, lay medium/large white egg)
• 2 Silver Duckwing Yokohama Pullets (About 1 year or less)
• 1 Striped Mix Hen (Guessing Cochin x Barred Rock x Wyandotte) Very Neat looking!
• 3 Bantam Partridge Cochin Hens (All about 1 to 1 1/2 years)
• 3 Bantam Black Breasted Red Old English Game Pullets (about 5 months old, should all be nice show quality)
• 1 Ancona Hen (about 1 1/2 years)

I also have 2 fixed rabbits ! They are very friendly cute little bunnies! 1 Rex Buck, and 1 Lop Doe! Both live together but can go separately! Also have a tan and white male guinea pig who is also very friendly and cute!
I do not get on here hardly ever and it is easiest to contact me at (207)-779-7710 or [email protected]!

Ancona!

Silver Spangled Hamburg!

Silver Duckwing Yokohama!

Those Silver Duckwing Yokohamas are beautiful. I am coming to understand the true meaning of chicken math already. I definitely want more! I think I have enough to deal with right now though :) And here, after all that crap was the reward for putting up with all the crazyness:

Our very first egg ever :)

All of this insanity and many more pictures are on my instagram @ayetwobee or blog if anyone wants to follow along in my silly adventures. The blog is private but shoot me a PM with your email and I will happily add anyone from BYC. So delicious!

Oh I am Jealous! I've got about a month before I can expect eggs. Oh boy on the chicken math too....I started out with 6, one did not make it, and I wanted to replace it....so I got 5 more....So maybe 5=1???

I have new babies hatched, 6 baby paint silkies and more due to hatch all under broodies. I'm so excited to see all the spotted babies!!

I was away for a couple of days and missed the arrival of the goats! They are adorable. I drove by Luvmygoats house on my trip, but did not dare stop in, as there was a little room for a few chickens amongst our camping gear. The coastal trails on Campobello are gorgeous!

So who was the Maine forum member who told the funny goat projectile vomit story? .........

Sorry to hear about Mustardtiger's hen, and glad you got an egg!

so, my dilemma is this....started out with six....fox got two....now, four is not looking like enough....o.k. i'll admit it, i REALLY like them...they so funny.....so, do i gt more little fuzz balls and have two generations of chickens or do i pay more for ones that are closer to the age of my girls right now...either way, i have to introduce new stock to my flock...just trying to figure out the best way to feed the addiction....

thoughts?

I think it was me...my sister had a herd of nubians, and her dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks ex-boyfriend cut down a whole rhododendron bush and fed it to them, leaving her six months pregnant to spend 4th of July weekend cleaning up projectile vomit from 17 goats, stealing cud from the one healthy goat with sense not to eat the rhody, and giving coffee enemas to 17 sick goats... Less of a funny story and more of a cautionary tale about any plant in the mountain laurel family!

Fortunately, most goats won't eat toxic plants if they have ANY other choices - these were in a bare pen with only hay, and they went for the green stuff - and once they have a bad experience with a plant, they won't eat it again. If they're on a varied pasture or have access to lots of things, especially in a new environment, they'll wander around and sample little bits of this and that, then wait to make sure it's safe to keep eating. Giving them a good feed-up with hay before introducing them to a new pasture is never a bad idea - they'll be a lot less likely to gorge on things that are bad for them.

ohhhh...you have a chicken with special needs? i think we do too...the boys named her Jack...(dunno, just did) and she is the only one that takes, i swear, 10 minute to figure her way out of the coop when i let the girls out...she hit the corners, hits the screen, almost to the door, then runs away....it's funny and yet, i feel guilty....should i feel guilty?
