Well are we talking about Americans or people from overseas? I dont want to get into it here in the forum, but if you want you can PM me and I'll tell you. I just dont want to start a public fight or say anything to get this locked.

First off, I agree 100%. It was sick how much coverage the death of MJ received when the struggle of our soldiers deployed (continuously) in the middle east is getting little coverage in mainstream media. The main issue is that they are ratings and profit driven. Unfortunatley the general public tunes in more to see about celebraties and not about the continued struggles in the Middle East. The war just doesn't bring in ratings.

There is also certain sect who find it unpatriotic to show the return of fallen soldiers and actively try to suppress it. That undercurrent is definitely there.

I would also like to plug PBS news, they have a tribute at the end of the newscast where they show pictures of fallen soldiers, individually, in total silence. Also, NPR continues daily coverage in the middle east. They haven't been forgotten by our public broadcasting.

Stephen Colbert recently was in Baghdad for a week. He deserves some major pats on the back for trying to bring the soldiers back into the public eye.

Not all of the soldiers who are deployed are men. Correct me if I am wrong.

True, but that's not my point. My point is the comparison between a MAN who serves his country and a MAN like MJ. I'm not comparing MJ to the entire world population.

I guess things were in my head that I wasn't writing down.

This is so true. I quit watching the news when he died for almost 10 days because I KNEW what it would be. And, here it is what over 2+ weeks later, and they still can't stop talking about it. I was really delighted this morning when I saw his hair on fire. THAT is what caused his addiction. . .give me a break. For crying out loud, this "man" was almost a convicted sex offender a few years ago, and his money and connections got him off (think OJ!!) and people talked about how weird he was and what a pervert, his poor children blah, blah, blah . . . and he ups and dies on us, oh, excuse me, he was murdered now . . . and he is a gosh darn hero. I am so tired of that. I don't believe in Oscars or Grammies or any other award for movie stars and the like. They are there because they want to be, and no one needs to make THAT much money or get that many awards. Although I do wish Jack Nicholsen would have gotten an Oscar for his part in "A few good Men." His courtroom scene with Tom Cruise was such good acting!! It scared me then, and makes me shiver now!! Sorry, I needed to vent.

This may not be a popular point but I think that when the OP said he was upset that MJ got a moment of silence in congress and fallen soldiers don't he hit the nail on the head. I think if they did give a moment of silence for every fallen soldier they would realize the gravity of their decisions and how much their choices affect the world. Sorry, I'm not big on politicians

I am sick of hearing about michael jackson.. I am sorry he died... but there is more important issues out there... I quit watching Nancy Grace because it is mostly about michael jackson.. every time I am flipping thru cable there isalways something on him and i am tired of it...

God Bless the soldiers and thier families for all of thier sacrifices for us... I too come from a long line of military ... male and female... I also wanted to be in the airforce... but have had too many medical problems all of my life...

My husband is AF.

My sister's husband was AF and is now Army. His two brothers are both Army.

My brother just joined the Army after working for years overseas for the State Department of Washington D.C.

So you had better believe that it burns my biscuits when a "Pop" star (who is possibly one of the WORST role models for children anywhere) is given more respect than our fallen soldiers. Than those who actually WERE murdered, it's not like they OD themselves!

Thank you for posting this. It's good to know that not everyone in America is against the military.

I have to be honest and say that until it was personal, I never really paid attention one way or the other.
