Making a diy duck waterer

I made this today. Actually just a couple hours ago. They aren't sure of it yet.

I may have it a bit to high. If they aren't using it in the morning I can make the tote sit in lower.

It is my attempt at cleaner water as well as enough water that I am not refilling 4 times a day.

How’s you get those holes so perfect? That looks great! And how come we haven’t seen your ducklings lately?

I traced a lid (5" diameter) then drilled a hole to stick my jig saw blade in. They aren't very perfect.....don't go looking to close. ;)
Webster and the waddle tots all think I am Godzilla. They all pile in a corner freaking out like crazy when I come near.:(:(
I have them moved out of the chicken house as of today and in a temporary set up while we roof the run and I build the duck house. I will try for pics but I don't like scaring them.

It looks really good from here. I’m sorry your little ones are so scared. Have you tried to win them over with mealworms?

Truth is....with 4 dogs that don't see eye to eye, the garden, the housework and everything else I don't get much time to work with them. I am hoping once their house is built, pool is in a ducky deck I can sit in their space and have them not feel crowded.
My goodness how they grow fast!

I installed these on a big 20 gallon bucket. They tilt down when full and raise when empty. Its deep enough for the ducks to get the bill and nares into it does get dirty but always filled with water. I also have a 5 gallon waterer with a trough at the bottom they use it get it pretty nasty. The 3rd thing I use is a small rubber maid container and it sits on the outside of their pin so they stick their heads through the rabbit wire and dunk.

Ok so you are saying it can work for ducks?

I use a bucket with hose secured to it. The hose is on a timer that is programmed to run for a few minutes every six hours. It flushes the water mostly clean, but it does waste some water and soak the area.
