Making a rag rug.....the "tool' and how to do

I made one one year out of the same material I made my kitchen curtains. I just tore the fabric into strips and used a crochet hook, the largest one I could find and crocheted away!!!

Do you think you could use material like old cotton T shirts?
and should it be all the same type of material?

Well I have started my Rag Rug....I have been taking some photo's....I should have started this project last fall because soon i will be getting spring fever and want to be outside more....
