For image manipulation I use Gimp https://www.gimp.org/. For painting Krita https://krita.org/en/ is one of the best. Both free and cross-platform.

Okay, so I have decided to go with Adobe PhotoShop! But while investigating I found this:

Hey, thanks for providing that link! I experimented with it real quick then used another site to make the background transparent and crop. You do have to adjust the slider to make sure everything white (like the edge around each photo) doesn't disappear.

I think you have to make an account but it's free. It's where I make all my BYC greetings, thanks to the referral from @Abriana ! The templates, fonts and possibilities are endless and it uses the same shortcuts as Adobe programs like
⌘A - select all
⌘Z - undo
etc.

I used to have 3 software programs... Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator back when I went to school before my daughter was born. Since then, all the software is now a monthly subscription and I can't install my old software on my new computer! They really make it so nothing lasts forever! So now I'd rather use free online sites. As much as I love apple products, I hate them just as much.

I use Gimp and PicMonkey. Both work well, though PicMonkey is definitely the easiest to learn.
