A friend and I are planning on making some goat milk soap before Christmas.... I have a gas stove at my house and my friend recalls something somewhere about not making soap over an open flame... does anyone know if this is true or not?

Back in the day, all soap was made over an open flame...outdoors in a huge cauldron over a log fire when hogs were butchered.

Care must be taken with any batch of soap made whether on a gas stove or an electric. Do some research on safety strategies.

I do not use a stove at all to make soap. Adding water to lye heats lye when cooled a bit and poured over oils they melt just fine. Then just stir. For goat milk freeze the milk if you do not want brown soap.
