Making the most of it.

I'm sooo upset.. I'm physically and mentally disabled so a woman gave me 4 red ranger roosters and that have been better than any pill thay have got me on. Thay keep me active and I spend hours just sitting in there pen. It calms me down and it helps my depression so much. Now the city comes to day and tells me IV got to get rid of them. I live on about a Acker and a half of land there in a very clean pen and thay don't even crow thay are so good. Now I'm going to lose them and loose my therapy tool.
Can you go to the city planning dept or somewhere that they handle the zoning and see if there is anything you can do to temporarily halt them from forcing you to get rid of them?

I'm sorry you are having to go through that. I am worried that if anyone complains about my birds, they will make me get rid of them as well, since I"m not zone. I'm just starting the process to get my property zoned for chickies....

I wish you luck!!!

That really sucks! What reason did they give you?

Mayfield, I believe, is in western KY. I had an uncle, and still have cousins, living in and around Paducah. Beautiful country in that area.

I live just down the road a bit from Paducah. Thay told me it was breaking code. Its funny just a few miles down the road there is a pilgrims pride chicken plant. There's semi's going down the road stacked full of chicken cages and each cage is just cramed full of chickens and thay look so pitiful. Now that's a crime. Don't get me wrong I love fishing and hunting but I also believe in being human.

Are you violating their code by having roosters, or do they not allow chickens at all?

You can have them if u have 2 akers of land and the pen has got to be 200 ft away from your house. I'm hoping the Americans with disabilities Act will make it where the city can't do any about my roosters.

Ohhhh no, my heart goes out to you. I just lost my flock too. I hope your area will change their rules. It's quite an occomplishment to keep four Roos together.

Lots of cities across the country now allow hens to be kept; no more than 3 and no roosters. I'm surprised that Mayfield is being so stiff-necked about it.
