The gap between the starter gear,and flexplate should be about the thickness of a paperclip.Just unfold the clip and slide the end of it between the two gears,Like a feeler gauge, Also you can use a shim on one side of the starter or the other to get proper gap. Instead of both sides.

Usually actually runs down the back of the block, from the intake manifold, trickles down the transmission bellhousing.

If its not there check your pressure cap.

Other than that the heads are eating it up, usually head gaskets

Does it smoke white? Pull one of the spark plugs

Plugs will foul white if burning coolant

Check that the oil isnt foaming
