Making your own breed!

I am thinking about (not super seriously) trying to make my own somewhat stable breed.

I was thinking about a golden phoenix/salmon favorelles (fluffy long tail colorful)

Any stories about creating new breeds?
Or anything about it?
What I like to do while working on a new breed is draw out an outline of a shape you wish to obtain, a trait you wish to obtain, and a color variety you wish to obtain. Once you got that, you can select the birds that are available that best match all these traits and begin.

I created a breed called the Chesta Puree around 4 years ago but have since sold them out. I also created Queenstons which were giant birds that were Buff Columbian patterned. I haven't been creating any at the moment but am thinking of starting another project

Cool! Any pictures? How long did it take to stabilize?

Any thoughts on Golden Phoenix/Salmon Favorelle?
Was thinking of the name Burenican.

I have pictures on my old desktop, but that thing don't work anymore unfortunately. The time frame of stabilization varies with your wants. With Salmon and Golden crossings I would say it would take 5 years minimum to stabilize any variety the crossings are able to produce
The name sounds like a real good breed name

I am going to be starting a Mille Fluer Plymouth Rock project which will include crossings of Mille Fluer Cochins and Buff Rocks. I'm estimating around 4 years to establish color, and ten years to establish type and traits

Sounds cool! Any tips from a pro? is it OK that the breed is only decented from 2 birds? Do you add in any 3rd breed characteristics?
Yes, it is perfectly okay that the breed is only descended from 2 birds as long as the results are what you are looking for. Do you understand now? We can't help you as long as you don't have something in mind. You may add a third breed if it is necessary in obtaining your overall wish

you do understand that you will not have a "breed" until they can throw offspring exactly what they look like, 5 years is hardly enough time to do this .
I wish you luck..

well, maybe it was I who got testy,, sorry.
and you are wrong about me knowing a lot.
If I knew anything, I would not have had chickens for so long..
last fall and this spring I got rid of all the birds. keeping them over winter is just too much for me anymore. I am closer to 80 than I am to 70 ..
I took up a new hobby. propagating trees and plants. making a section of the property into edible landscape.
air layering everything in sight.
all new to me..
