I finally got smart and walked my malay rooster in a corner and measured him against the wall. He surprised me. He's just over 30 inches. I've never seen a 3 foot chicken, but some 30 inches. I think this little guy will be my biggest. 4 months old and his legs (from top of drumstick to tip of toe) are already over 15 inches.

You will hear claims of 3 feet, but I've never seen one reach that height when a measuring stick is placed side by side with a bird. I would say that 26 inches is common enough.
One of my old standards [1945 printing I think] gives a height of 26 inches. Some of the German import blood are taller, heavier, dewlaped and coarser scaled than the American standard cocks. Some of them even have walnut combs that would make silkies wear a hat.A good Malay is more refined than any other Oriental of the same size. At what age do malays and shamo's start crowing. I only ask because I read they are slow to mature does that also mean they start crowing later as well?

I was given this rooster and was told he is three months old. He started to crow today, crowing like a beginner crow. Also I was told this is malay/shamo cross. I'm no expert and don't have a trained eye, but what is this guy, and how old is he?

Muffed? It's hard to say what went into some of the performance lines. Tom
