Don't forget to do the Serama Census on the SCNA forum!

I've got two "surprise" test eggs that should be hatching today from my original fatty pair. No clue what the babies are going to look like....most of the pullet's eggs seem to quit a few days before hatch (hubby says they do it out of spite, but I'm guessing it's because they're pullet eggs haha), and the two chicks I did get out of them so far are very different. The first chick to hatch a week or two ago was WHITE with a black back. The second was yellow, slightly darker on the back. Maybe the next one will be purple. xD
For reference, these are out of what I *think* is approx a wheaten roo and a black pullet with white speckles.

BUT! By next weekend I should have my five (?) newest Bluegrass chicks hatching. I've got my fingers crossed for a good hatch lol. The only one to hatch last time is a little guy, and very vertical when offended. Unf, he's pretty clearly a little roo.

Niether of my seramas are a recognized color wariety so far as I know. Thier chicks are very colorful and never hatch with any pridictable colors. I did get a black and a buff, but the rest are off colors.

I think that feather legged seramas might be pretty cute. They wouldn't be pure seramas, though.

The combs do look a bit big, but they also look young. And you know teenagers! One body part grows, then another. If your friend wants to be sure she's getting good birds, she should wait until they are older.
eta. I changed my mind. Only the comb on the right looks really big, and that might just be the angle. I just got my first silkied Seramas, and I don't know much about evaluating their type yet.

Purebred Seramas do come in the booted variety, but they aren't nearly as feathered as Cochins!

OMG!!! there is hope for my project then!!! The only problem will be finding my stock.

I don't think anything is as feathered out as a cochin.

I wish Zip was a purebred. He might be come to think of it. I had just asumed he was a cross cause of the feathered legs. Maybe he is a purebred.

Just happened upon this thread out of curiousity and that pic makes me want to get a Serama just to cross w/my bantam cochins! Soooo cute!

I Know, Right? He's totally adorable!!! He has the great temperments of both breeds.

I think I should create my own breed. They would sell like hotcakes.

The seramas come in a booted variety, so I could just do that i guess.

Can you sell me some eggs??????????

When my Cochin hen starts laying again I will be more than happy to sell you some eggs. She's done molting, so it should be soon.

Zip's babies will have to wait until spring. He's only about four months old now. He has a sister too.

PM me if you're interested.

That would be cool! Those Serama/Cochin crosses are just so cute!

And now i have a question.
How can I get my new Serama hen, Jane Eyre, to lay? She and Rochester are in a cage in the middle of the kitchen. Do I need to make her a private nesting box? It is hard to fit one is the cage. I really need eggs, because I got them for breeding after all. Plus, how often do roosters mate with hens? I have never observed Rochester mate with Jane, even though they do get let out on the floor sometimes.
I know Jane is (was) in lay, because I found an egg in the shipping carton when they came from Lousiana. I want to hatch some Serama babies!

EDIT: Sumatra, please PM me when the hen lays, so I can see about the eggs. Thanks!
