I wonder how my husband will feel when he finds out that they are going to be 'house birds', at least for Ohio winter......

I wonder how my daughter will feel when she returns from college during the holidays to find I've turned her room into a serama aviary.....

I am bring a pair to donate to the SCNA raffle! I couldn't decide which Silkie girl to donate, and Jerry told me to bring both! This got me thinking, and I decided to bring the hen, bred by Bobbi Porto, and a pair of the Serama chicks that she is currently brooding. I will probably include the 3/4 Silkie 1/4 Cochin that she has as well, so that will be 4 birds for the price of a raffle ticket. And I don't know about the Census. When I asked if I could have chickens in town, the mayor asked me, "how many?" I told him that there would be three to five hens. I am now pretending that I said thirty-five, and he misheard me, but even that may be a stretch! I purposly don't count them, just so I can't claim that I know I am in violation of my original promise.

I think I am keeping the caramel girl in back, so the beige girl and the wheatie will be in the raffle.

I just found some out some more info on the serama I asked about the seller is wanting $100 a pair for them.. they are about 4-5months old. I personally dont think I would give that from the pic, not sure if he has seen more pics than those. I'm tryin to find out if he can actually go pick them out or they are goin to be shipped.. but any opinions would be great please!

We'd need more pics. I didn't see any girls in the pic. I liked the boy in the middle the best, though.

For 100 or more a pair, I would personally want to see something that approaches epic proportionately to the $$. If those are young, it may be hard to ascertain if they're worth it via one picture.

He sent me another pic that had a different set looked to be a black hen and a mottled roo, they seemed nicer..I asked him if he could actually go and look at them or if they were being shipped, he said he had to have them shipped. I told him personally I wouldn't pay that for them from what I've seen, and If you wanted them to make her send a few different pics from different angles before he decided.

It'd have to be a pretty amazing pair or some pretty tiny A's for me to consider paying 100.00. I can get Seramas locally that are B class for about 10.00 each from a breeder friend of mine.

They did look fairly nice, but young is young and it is always hard to tell.

You should have your friend ask to see pics of the parents. Also he should ask for a size comparison just in case.

Is he looking to breed them for possible show or is he just looking for pets to start him off?

He's looking to breed but hes getting kinda impatient.. I've sold him a hen but I have younger roos that I haven't decided if I'm keeping selling or culling and he texts almsot weekly askin if they are ready yet lol... He says he wants to breed seriously but he keeps straying talking about getting some culls from people.. I have to keep telling him its harder to breed out flaws than what you think..lol

Asking others to put a value on birds is tricky, because of everyone's financial priorities and capabilities. Tell your friend to stay away from culls if he wants to be serious about breeding good birds. They may be cheap to buy, but they cost the same to feed, and getting rid of the baddies is time consuming. If he's too impatient to wait for yours to grow up, remind him of how long it will take to breed something decent out of culls! Not saying that the ones he's considering buying are bad. All I've seen is the one pic. They may be marvelous.
