Sorry I just saw you said brood not breed.

You can use any breed of hen known for setting. Some have Cochins and Silkies for setting.

I can't hatch shipped egg worth a toot. out of 55 eggs from 3 different people I hatched TWO

I stuck some silkie eggs in the bator with each batch and those hatched.
