Awwww, that's nothing! I've had girls routinely fly from the ground, o-v-e-r the coop and run, to land over 40 feet away on the deck landing, 12 feet in the air!

And they weren't phased in the least!

That is so funny!! This morning my hen was riding on my shoulder, my roo (who is silked and never jumps for anything) decided that it was HIS turn for attention even though I had just finished rubbing his keel (which he adores) and he took a flying leap and flew onto my other shoulder. He was so impressed and proud of himself, he had to announce his great flight to the entire world! Then he decided my hair was too messy and began to meticulously preen my hair and pluck out my bobby pins. My hen was unhappy because he invaded HER lookout perch, so I had victorious crowing in one ear and ranting squabble in the other. They're so funny! She throws a fit if he's getting attention, and he throws a fit when she is! The only time they're completely satisfied is when my husband and I sit down together and they're both getting rubs and loves. That's called nap time.

Tell me about it, I was in the backyard weeding last week and had one of my trios out in a pen under my trees across the yard from me (a bit over 1/4 acre). Her man wanted some attention and she was not in the mood, so she hopped up on her fence and flew all the way to me, landing on my arm. I could not believe it! My son was laughing so hard and kept saying too bad we did not get that on the camera! Her man was ticked! She is a bit over 4 mths. I have a feeling when they are older and a bit heavier they wont be able to fly so far.

Booted like the feathered feet of the little D'uccles? I'm not a show person, but if you had all the well known Serama traits, size, personality, type, plus boots, I think that would be cute!

Brody's Broodello :

How does everyone feel about the Booted Serama? I've heard mixed messages about them, so I'll ask here.

If they were really booted, they'd be super cute! The only ones I've seen look like they have feather stubbs (sorry if that offends anyone), but if someone made a project out of them and tried really hard to do better than feather stubbs they'd really be absolutely adorable - would probably look a lot like d'uccles. I'm partial to clean legged birds myself only because they're easier to keep clean.

Really just stubbs? The one's I have, have all had full feathers, like our silkies. They just keep popping out here.

Really! I would LOVE to see some real feathered feet! Yes, I've only seen stubbies.
