How often do your seramas lay eggs? I just got one from a fellow BYCer and am trying to learn more about the breed. I just love the little girl I got - her name is Bella:
Serama aren't known for being consistent layers. Some hens will lay well, others won't. Some hens may be so small they'll never lay. My girls will lay only about 10 or so eggs before they go broody again between clutches.
As far as being cold tolerant, I've read that because they were "created" in a climate that is warm year round, they don't do well with the cold, but there have been many breeders that have found they tolerate it a lot better and are a lot tougher than they were lead to think. Here in Texas, mine don't get any special treatment, since it doesn't get very cold here in the winter. I just make sure they have shelter and aren't exposed to severe weather.
Mine actually ended up laying 3 tiny eggs this week! Now she needs to have a discussion with my Mille Fleur D'Uccle hens who are about 17 weeks old. One of them has been getting redder in the face so I am hoping for an egg from her in the next couple of weeks.
I just purchased a quad of seramas this summer, first time with this breed so i'm still learning alot about them. My hens are a's and the boys are b's. The hens started laying very young and about a month after they went broody. I won some hatching eggs and let a broody hen hatch 7 eggbid eggs and 3 of my own flocks eggs.
These are of my quad
Here are some pics of the babies that hatched, The darker colored ones are from my black hen and the 2 boys the rest were from eggbid and all pretty much yellow, one chick was still hatching under the hen at the time of this pic
Here are the babies a little over 1 week old and already posing and getting their wings and tail feathers in
Few babies playing peek a boo under their mama
This one is the tiniest of the bunch and poses the best. My nephew named it smudge
Bernie is my favorite out of the roosters... He is just soooo handsome!

I bought some eggs that were shipped from tx i believe, paid for 6 eggs but got 10 eggs, one in which i dropped on the kitchen floor by accident and 2 others were no good so 7 out of the 10 hatched. I think thats pretty good for shipped eggs
I hope everyone that got Seramas this year knows they have to give them a heat source if it gets cold.
I have been told people are selling the larger ones and saying they are OEGs. Anything for a buck I guess,
I have mine in the house where it stays a consistant 70 degrees. I won't sell my birds to anyone who doesn't plan on giving them a steady heat source. It is my understanding that they can't tolerate temps below 50 degrees
