Thanks. The pics arent all that great cuz they werent posing. Their type is better than the pics appear. the black hen is for sure the best "type" but her size is a bit larger. The "wheaten" colored hen is actually one of the black hens babies. She got dads color and small size with moms shape. I got lucky that she remained smaller like dad was, many of their chicks ended up C+'s. As of now all of mine are all B type with the exception of the black one which is a bit closer to the C type. We'll see what happens when the incubator starts to chirp away.

Just wanted to share that one of my Serama chicks, the first I've been able to hatch out from my hen Dovey's eggs, is so tiny I can't imagine him/her even being an A size, lol

At a week and a half old, "Uno" weighs in at a whopping 0.4 ounces.......

This is verified weight, not a kitchen scale or anything like that. I use my husbands sensitive, digital scales he uses for work and they are legally correct for use in weighing freon. In a week, Uno went from 0.3 ounces at hatching to 0.4

Since he was the only one to hatch of 3 teeny eggs, I didn't want him alone and I had 3 chicks from a previous hatch out of my other small hen. I brought in the smallest of the 3 and yes, he's 2 weeks older but he's a giant compared to Uno even though he's one of my smaller chicks and will probably be an A or B like the others. I let my other hen set these 3 eggs since I hadn't been able to get any of them to hatch in the incubator but right now, Dovey is setting 4 of her own eggs and I can't wait to see if I get more of these teeny little guys hatched. Has anyone raised any of the tinier than A sized Serama's?

see what you started!?!?! This thread introduced me to most of the people I rely on for Serama information, let me show off my first birds, and gets me excited every time I see that someone has posted something new! Now if it can only hook me up with one really nice, typey, tiny, fertile hen for less than a million dollars........

i had.... keyword being had.... one that got up to about 4 months old and died... i asked around about it and he was just tooo tiny. I don't know exactly how much he weighed but it couldn't be much considering my smallest hen is bigger than he was. anyway here is a pic so you can see. this pic was taken not long before he died.

I have all sorts of fears for Uno and I know he's too tiny to even be alive. He's had a couple of tough moments and was prone to poopy butt at first but that seems to have resolved. He will remain a house chicken if he stays tiny but I'm worried he might die anytime. I look at him all the time, almost expecting him to die. He cheeped a lot at first but he's quieter now. He's more active and seems to be eating and drinking enough but just being so tiny is just scary. I've been putting electrolytes in his water, I had put a little apple cider vinegar in the water and he didn't do well with that at all. The electrolytes seem to be doing better for him. His chick starter crumbles are crushed and I crushed and added in a pinch of probiotics and vitamin B complex. He had a little loose stool (the poopy butt thing) and I gave him some antibiotic crumbles for a few days. So far, so good but guarded.

Thank you for responding. If he grows up, I'll be very thankful for that but still guarded. At least it's a nice time of year for him to be a chick. It's too cool yet, but by the time the weather really stays warm, he can have a place outside with healthy fresh air and sunshine. Here is a picture I took a few days ago of Uno and his buddy. They are not from the same birds and the larger chick is actually normal size but next to Uno, he looks huge. I need to take a picture of them next to something you can compare size with

mine didn't make much noise at all... i honestly don't think he was capable of making any noise. i did the same with my lil roo as for the electrolytes and vitamins. he was an inside bird too. i just want you to be aware that being so tiny like that he may not make it very long. mine was doing fine when i left for school the morning he died and i was only gone a couple hours. he didn't act sick or anything. i came home and he was just dead. so keep a close eye on your lil one. i was devastated and cried for hours. I hope you don't have to go through the same thing i did.. i know the fears you have . I had the same ones and it is kinda scary for them to even be alive and soooo small.

on a positive note.... he is adorable.

I have a clutch of half Serama chicks that just hatched yesterday. I can't believe how tiny they are! The shrimp we had for dinner last night were bigger than these little guys.

I offer my chicks a wet mash a few times a day along with their dry game bird crumble. I give them milk and bread a few times a week and I dig up shovelfuls of baby rye grass for them all the time. I give them scratch and other fresh greens and fruit. I give them wild bird seed every day. A good trick to get scrawny chicks to eat more is to mix some crumble with rice.

Peanut started out really tiny and he's still short but he's gotten so fat that I'm thinking of changing his name to Butterball.
He looks like a microscopic turkey strutting around. He's a ball of energy.

This all kind of defeats the goal of raising A size birds but health comes first.
