Kellie,
Love your set up! I need something like that

Actually, I have this huge wooden box in the barn. I don't know what it was used for initially but it was in the garage a couple winters for holding the kindling for the fireplace. Right now, it's in the barn and my son had put it on a small trailer to haul pellets for his calves when he weaned them. It's about empty and I'm wondering if I could put it up on some blocks and cut out some windows to cover with wire and put a roof on it and a door.........

I will have to talk my son out of it but it's huge (4 by 6 foot) and might work cool to use in the barn for chicks till they're ready to be on the ground.

Silverduckwing,
I'll have some ready to sell in a month or two. I have 6 now but they're just teeny babies and a few more in the incubator but I don't count my chicks before they hatch

. You can't really ship them as day olds because they're so small and fragile. Hatching eggs that are shipped are really tough to get chicks from but not impossible, it's just really expensive if you have many failed hatches. They need to be at least 6 weeks, or better yet, closer to 4 months old to ship them and not have as much risk for injury.

Ironically in my desire to have Seramas - a friend got me a great small coop with wonderful run and an incubator for Christmas - so guess what my spring project is - my first Serama's! Have been lurking on here a bit - but may be calling on all your expertise to help me! LOL Merry Christmas all!

Hope everyone had a Great Holiday!

Hatch Update...9 out of 11 last week, 7 out of 9 Christmas Eve (Day)! Have 2 more hatches going, one for New year's and one a week later. Most of my girls are now broody, so no more hatching for a few weeks!

From what I can see, I have several blues and one definite chocolate, plus a couple blacks...We'll see what they look like in a few weeks! I'm still saying nightly Pullet Prayers!

I have a rooster that I'm being told may be blue wheaten. My hens are wheaten and these chicks have all been pretty typical wheaten then these last 2 surprised me by being all yellow with a faint blue spot on the back and a little on the wings. They're different than previous chicks so I just don't know. What are these then?

too cute!!I have another hatch to start next week.Ordered 1doz+ serama eggs from 2 different breeders.I do love the little chickens

A couple of babies from the first hatch are developing like your chicks, but their wing color is blue (grey), not black or brown...I think they will look like their mama, blue & white.

I know we all want to know what our chicks will look like when grown up, but with serama, you really have no idea until they're grown.

Yes, that's part of the excitement, but also disappointment, if you're really striving/breeding for a certain color (sigh)! You could very well have blue in your chicks, but I think Mother Nature is going to make you wait a while longer to find out...I have some birds that have had blue/chocolate "parts", but didn't see it until they were older...Maybe I just have "old" eyes (I already have glasses...!)
