Cute Kellie! I have 2 frizzle girls too that look a lot like yours. I don't think they lay eggs... One is super tiny. I hope she blesses me with one eventually.

Here's a picture of one of my three young chocolate cockerels taken a couple of days ago. I can't begin to photograph his awesome color, you just have to see it in person!

Also one of my young pullets, I may show her down the road as she loves to pose and seems to handle table top well for such a young age.

Sounds good to me! I'm right smack in the middle of downtown!

Awesome....I will let you know when I am headed that way. Currently have a trip planned for mid-February.

My solid black pullet started laying the other day, later this spring I will pair her with one of these chocolate boys and see what we get.

Looking good! I NEED a pure chocolate cockerel. NEED. NEED... ha ha ha.

Thank you! Two almost look like twins, the other is a shade lighter but all three are really good looking and very promising.

PhiladelphiaPhlock,
We go out to Maryland to see our kids and grandkids a couple times a year, I don't know how far you are from our route but I'll sure have to remember you and check in before our next trip.

Juliette, Are your hatching any?

HenThymes, Very nice!

I'm so glad to see several breeders with chocolate. Anyone else here?

Carolynspeeps,
This would probably freak some out but I have never had a problem with large and small chicks or even older and younger chicks together in the brooder. The little Serama's mature quicker than my Araucana's so they get to go out to the heated barn with a cage and lights once they're all feathered out with those first feathers. My hatches are so staggered that I found it necessary to mix them so I have a routine and it's always worked fine. I have a styrofoam incubator with a turner and fan. For lockdown, those eggs are candled then moved to the other styrofoal incubator that has no turner and no fan that I keep the humidity up, 55 to 65%. That one has a screen covered floor and they hatch in there and spend the first couple of days in it. I put a flat dish with water the second day.

When they're fluffed up and ready, the second day, I take all the chicks out of the brooder and put them in a cage in another room with a light for a little while, especially when the sun is shining in. I put the new chicks in the brooder a few hours and let them settle in then add the others back in a few hours. I think it keeps down the territorial stuff. I've done this with my outside coop when adding young or new one to the flock. Anyway, the big and older chicks end up with the little guys snuggled up under them at night.

But, if I have a particularly small chick(s) then I have a small wire cage that actually fits down inside the brooder box and the little ones get to live in it till I feel they're ready then I put them out with the rest and take the cage out. Button is a week old and weighs in at 0.5 ounces but he's doing great with the bigger Serama chicks and there are 3 large fowl Araucana chicks in there too. One of them is huge. That doesn't seem to be an issue here and I love to see the big ones taking care of the younger ones. I like mine to bond like that for when they move to the barn later. These guys will remain in the house in the brooder till the weather is more settled since it's been so frigid. We had an electrical breaker go bad in the barn on one of the nights it was below zero degrees and all my adult Serama's were fine. The eggs and water were frozen but no apparent issues with the birds. We replaced the breaker right away, I'm sure they were happy to be back up to 50-60 degrees again.

Here is "Button" with all the older Serama chicks.
