Serama eggs CAN be successfully hatched!

I hatched 11 out of 18 shipped eggs. The eggs came from Patrick of Bluegrass Seramas.

I second this! I have 6 new Serama babies in my incubator - just hatched a few minutes ago - and 6 teens from previous hatches last month. I'm not going to lie - they have been difficult and these 12 are out of about 80 eggs, but it is possible.

I agree, they can be hatched, but I think that is the exception, not the rule. I got eggs from mbrobbins and hatched 17 of 37 eggs. Most of them started (I think there were 3 that developed early blood rings) but several quit during incubation.

I had my humidity around 50% and didn't help any of them hatch.

Ink heart,I was NOT trying to talk you out of getting Serama eggs shipped just wanted you to know how difficult it might be. IT is still fun to order them and anticipate and hope you get some little chicks.

second that. It is most definitely fun as long as you go into knowing they are difficult. I am thankful for the 12 I have...and I'll be setting about 30 more eggs next week. Probably will get half that number of chicks if that, but that's ok. It's a learning experience and fun.

Oh i totally know that - i appreciate the honesty in it might not work out - jsut doing my research - as far as hatching i am aware this is a "heartbreak"breed a bit -

Personally, I'll say that I AM trying to talk you out of shipped serama eggs, you'd be much better off saving your money and buying a couple pairs or trios later on. Or you could get chicks from someone relatively local to you, or even drive a bit to pick up eggs or chicks. I've wasted a lot of money on eggs that didn't hatch, so I'd rather spend a bit more and know I'm getting a 'sure thing'.

There's a show not far from you in Marietta, OH the 26th of March, then there is one in Bloomington, IN, on April 9th. Another show in Lucasville, OH on the 28th & 29th of May, and another in Greenville, OH the 23rd of April.

There are also quite a few serama breeders in IN and OH, as well as those of us in KY. If you are willing to drive a bit to pick up you could get some very nice BIRDS and not have to worry about shipping

i am kinda with everyone. I have got eggs and agree that its fun trying to get the eggs to hatch. But now im with shelley I am gonna try and get some good correct pairs and try my best to get the best breeds that i can. It will be well worth it to me. i have spent alot of money and havent got far. but i want the best and i am gonna go from there. Its definitely been a learning experience for me. Bobby
