Hi! I had a weird Serama-thing happen. I opened a Serama pen Sunday morning to feed/water and one of the girls popped out, hit the ground, and flew straight up and over into the top of a big magnolia tree. She was wayway up, so I grabbed the ladder and long-handled net and tried to get to her --- no way.
I finally got high enough up the tree to shake the limb she was on and got her to move --- except she flew further away and off deeper in the woods (but to a shorter tree). After a while of going from tree to tree, I was able to catch her.
She didn't lay Mon, but was in a nestbox first thing this morning. She was still there about 9:00, so I looked closer and she was dead. Poor girl, I don't know what happened.

Poor sweetheart! I wouldn't be surprised if her death was not connected to the tree incident, though. Is there a chance she was eggbound? That's the first thing I think hearing she passed away in the nesting box. Regardless, I'm sorry for your loss.

I've always wanted a silkied serama... Hopefully one of these days I'll end up with a silkied pullet somehow!

really in malay i hear they cull them if you have pure malay seramas then you will get them sooner or later its in there gene but when you see them cull them this is how you get the breed to a malay standard

Yay! Now it will be even harder to wait!

Sometimes they will pip and zip fairly quickly (less than an hour) others take FOREVER (12 hours or more)! Now you can watch for more cracks in the egg that go around like a little zipper. I had one chick that was so good at the process, I could have sworn he had a little power saw in there.

Others can be a bit slow. Give them time, hatching is exhausting work!

Make a new pot of coffe or tea. It's gonna be a long night.

So far, nothing. The 1st to pip was around 2:00, so that was 6 hours ago. I took a nap after I found the 1st pip and when I woke up there were two more!

I'm getting some sort of cold, so I'm not feeling my best.

I'm drinking a cup of Roastaroma Tea ( Pretty much Coffee, I even put cream in it! lol ).

I'm not gonna get any sleep tonight. The incubator is right by my bed....

At least you don't have far to go when you want to look in every 5 minutes!
