From what i have been told or advised that SHIPPED serama eggs are very difficult to hatch. Chances are better without shipment -

Out of over 100 shipped eggs now, I have 13 chicks. Yeah, they are a bit difficult to hatch.

I couldn't agree more with you. There has been a lot of "starting things" on this thread lately.

For some reason, the shipping, even candling can mess up the little guys. They are just very delicate. I've other breeds of shipped eggs and experienced 90-100% hatch rate with them. I'm running about 50% right now which I've been told is pretty good. It was hard to accept at first but I'm learning to live with it and hoping to get a nice breeding trio or quad for myself so I don't have to buy shipped eggs all the time. In my opinion, they are worth the effort.

So you're saying there is really no way to see what color Seramas are until they're grown -

Ugh - what a long wait ...

Pretty much lol. I have one that was that color when she hatched. She is a peachy wheaton color now. I have 3 others that were that color and they are now black and white mottled and 2 more that are brown and black mottled. I've been told they will probably change a bit as they grow older.

I'm gonna go insane.....

Do you have any pictures? I looked on your blog, but couldn't find any, course that was awhile back.

If the chick is from "chocolate box" mating, there's no telling. If you breed a lot of the same birds, or if they come from a line of the same color, you can make a good guess. Even then, there are suprises. I predicted that this chick would grow up wheaten. He did, but he's mottled as well!

I had a ballpark idea of what his hatchmate would color in as, and she is following my expectations.

i apprectiate your help.I want to order 6 eggs.if i can get two of them to hatch ill be happy.then ill raise them if theyre male and female then ill be happy.i was wondering though.can you breed the brothers and sisters?i know that with rabbits you cant do that.along with other types of animals and such

Gosh...if you only set 6 eggs, you would be very lucky to get even 2 chicks and if only 1 hatches, it will be VERY lonely! It can be done, however, it is not a great idea to start a breeding program with sibling birds. If you are looking for proper type and character, it would be best to get a pair or a trio to start with and then hatch your own from there. JMHO
