~MALAYSIAN SERAMA THREAD~ (PICS!!!)

I did read that about putting a dimmer switch on the knob...I think I'll have to do that. I like the no fan part when hatching. The fan in the Brinsea combined with the humidity issue shrunk wrapped all my chicks last time. I never had that happen with my LG still air.

Congrats everyone on the new babies and new eggs!

I finally spent time getting good pics of our 6 week old chicks. So here they are:

Thing Two

And Matilda, the chicken-girl

Yeah, that's another reason why I think I"ll get another LG, the 'no fan' benefit. My geese have just started laying and I'm scared to hatch the eggs...last season I had only 3 goslings from over 30 eggs hatch and only 1 of those goslings lived. Several of the eggs pipped and got stuck, and the 2 that died had also gotten stuck and I helped. Geese pip at least 24 hours before hatching and the fan just dries them out too much.

) I wish my 'babies' would stand up when I"m trying to take pics, they always try to blend into the background

Thanks! But don't feel bad, they only just started standing up that straight and it doesn't last long. They really do it when I separate them and they are craning their necks looking for eachother.

So beautiful

So, I went with the LG...just finished putting all of them in there, letting the temp and humidity settle (had eggs in there already so just had to add the ones from the Brinsea) and I'm either losing my mind (too many chicks chirping in the house) or I have chicks chirping in the eggs already! It is only Day 18....I'm losing my mind, right?

I swear I've heard other people say that they've had chirping eggs that early. On a separate note, why do so many of you use the incubator? Do seramas not go broody often?

eta: thanks for the compliment mummzy!

It's weird. I've never had that before. I hope they are ok...I just pulled them out of the auto turner and the humidity wasn't set for hatching. I guess we'll see lol. I better get that brooder ready and keep a close eye on the humidity. I don't want to drown them.

I do because I ordered large amounts of eggs, more than my 3 hens could ever hatch. Plus, when I ordered my first 8 back in December, I ordered them for my Serama and Silkie hen who had been broody for months. The minute I hit the paypal button, they went unbroody!

Now, the Serama went broody last week again so I pulled 4 eggs and stuck them under her. She's a first time Mom, but doing great! She put herself into lock down last night. It's so strange how they just know. She just got the eggs last week and they were already mostly incubated.

Oh, I see. I was worried that my hens would never hatch their own. I didn't realize so many of those were shipped eggs. It is strange how they know just what to do, isn't it. I'm still wondering when Dottie is gonna give me some eggs already!

eta: i didn't see that the eggs under your broody were almost done. that's bizarre that she knew... good luck and of course we want pics!
