Thats what i was thinking maybe she just got "post pardum" and just could'nt take all the babys any more . and yes all the chicks are fine lucky i was out in the chinken yard when it happend .

I lost a chick yesterday to a hen gone loony! Just snatched it up and started flinging it around.

OHMYGAWD how awful to have to witness that.

I live in southern CA and have noticed that the AMOUNT of chickies born is WAAY less than previous years. [these are free ranging chickens at horse stables] I have seen 2 hens claim ONE chick not once but two times. The babies were well protected thats for sure. But in the past there would be 10-20 chicks per hen not one.......very strange. Anyone else expriencing this??

Thank you all for the great comments on my birds. i just love these little birds they bring so much joy to my life! and i love shareing them with everyone. i live in the mountians and not very many chicken people around here to share them with so i'm glad i have all my fellow bycer's to share pic's of my birds . thank you all just doing what i love .

thats what this hen did snatched it and started flinging it around and when i grabed her she would not let go of the little guy. i just don't know. but i moved her to her own cage she can just take a time out!

Hedwigs actuly broke on the car ride home but we just put the other 2 in the incubator last night.
