Hey y’all!

So I recently discovered that 1 of my 4 ducks is a male. He has always been the leader of the group but now it’s clear he is definitely a male. Recently he has started bothering my husband and male cats. If my husband is walking on the property the 1 male will chase him down, peck at him and try to always stay 2 steps ahead of my husband. Now today he literally chased after my male cat. The ducks are about 6 months and have always gotten along with our cats and us! The male will not chase after me at all, I’m guessing because I’m a female.

Anyway, is there ways to break this cycle? Any training suggestions?
Does time out work? I don’t know!

He is just getting older.....if you ever have him pecking at you then tap him on the bill. You need to show him that you are leader!

No...He is Bossy and aggressive. Your not his Momma but he sees you as part of the flock for feed. Some Drakes are more assertive. As he matures he might become more aggressive?...
Throwing him down actually is ridiculous and only causes him to fight back more the next time.
Carry a stick and keep him a good distance away from all of you..

My Muscovy drake does this to my husband I have told him flatten him down on his belly like another drake would do but of course he won’t so he can’t come into the area where the birds are it would be so simple to. Also a broom works real well for keeping him off the cats. My geese would go after the dogs so I started using the broom or pole to stop them from coming any closer they can learn what’s off limits.

Huh...Interesting..I sure never flatten a Drake out here..

I’ve flattened my Muscovy drake out many times when he gets obnoxious by that I mean I hold him down place on hand at neck and knee on his back make him stay that way till he quits trying to get up once he relaxes I let him up and he comes to his senses you don’t have Muscovy they are strong buggers.i am not hurting him just showing him just like another drake that he isnt dominant.

Sometimes my drake feels a little overconfident and sassy in the warm weather and will show aggression to me. Usually if I notice him following me when my back is turned and lowering his head repeatedly I will turn and charge at him. That generally does the trick.

If not, when he would waddle up to me to bite or nip I would 'nip' back. Two fingers, jab on the head. When drakes fight they grab at each other's heads and yank on feathers and skin. Pinch and pull, but make sure you adjust the strength for a smaller animal.

Pinning him used to work but my drake is gimpy now and I worry about aggravating his leg if I push him down so I've mostly been doing the charge/peck trick until he waddles off.

Do not encourage him to nip at you, even if it's gentle/light and doesn't hurt. Tolerating nipping only leads to the drake thinking it's acceptable and adding more force... and a forceful duck pinch can be quite painful.

He also goes after our dog, but not our cats. I'm not sure why, since the cats would be a more equal opponent in terms of size. He hates dogs.

I think the only reason my male Pekin is so sweet to me now is because I held him down when he was aggressive and younger. It worked for us. Now he sits on my lap and will fall asleep lol.
