4 week old heterozygous pied wing white, I’m still trying to figure out this whole quail thing, including boy/girl. I’m leaning male but is there too much white on the breast to feather sex it? Also have a clutch mate that appears to be crowing (homozygous pied, can’t feather sex) is that a sure sign he’s a he? Thanks!

I'd check again in a week or two, the ruddy chest will be more obvious. As for your other quail, I've heard crowing can occasionally happen with hens...but honestly, I've never seen it + I think most of the keepers here have never seen it, so...yeah, crowing is a boy.

My 12 year old had been hearing the crowing but he’s a pretty good little bird watcher so I trust his observations, today I heard something that sounded like a stepped on frog, I googled it And apparently a crowing quail sounds sort of like that, good thing he’s practicing!
